Wow, I wish I had researched AFA before I spent $$$ with them. Almost every negative comment in these reviews that I have read brings me to say "yes-- that happened to me too". Sorry to sound vain, but I have always been considered a handsome man, well educated, have a good job, and am financially secure. With a broken heart after decades with the same spouse, naive, and somewhat shy the AFA site provided a wonderful boost of self-confidence for me. I truly believed all these young beautiful girls were interested in me and were writing me these flirty letters. So after funding my letter writing in $100 increments to only those who supposedly wrote me first I was on my way to finding that special someone.
What I thought was a tender connection with one lady seemed especially promising. So I wrote to her that I was coming on a tour. After 6 months of sending and receiving her letters, it stopped immediately. Like others have shared, some other irregularities with pictures sent that were already on her profile site, and not answering my questions, etc. should have raised a red flag - but I was so much enjoying the attention, and so just kept plunking down those $100 deposits to my AFA account. At some point in time I did become more suspicious of the irregularities, even after receiving hundreds of letters; often several letters each week. And I thought I was so popular! And all these ladies want me! When I stopped opening letters written to me - wow, guess what -- just like others have stated those flirty letters stopped immediately. This and some other evidence on the tour that I ended up taking has convinced me to believe exactly what others have stated that this scam by AFA, the local offices, and/or the translators is ripe with fraud. It is hard for me to believe that owners, board members, and other upper management are not aware of what is going on; it is my personal opinion (with no evidence whatsoever) that it starts at the greedy top.
With my flirty ladies' letters stopped, I figured okay, this can happen, and went on the tour anyway. 50 names were submitted to the local office, and I explained that I had only submitted names of the ladies who had written me first - fully assuming they had written me first, so they must be really interested. However, the branch office seemed to completely discount the exclusivity of my list. This seemed very strange to me at the time, but seems to make total sense to me now. And after meeting some wonderful ladies who did not seem to know they had written me, I did have a nice trip, but it was very expensive. Several just seemed to want gifts purchased for them, fair enough. I can verify that at least some of the ladies in the profiles do exist, and it was a pleasure to meet them. I take full responsibility for being so naive and trusting with AFA, and clearly I am not suggesting that anyone take advice from me, but for what it is worth I would not trust ANYTHING AFA says to you about anything, and I mean anything! I would assume it false, unless and until proven true.
Love, or the prospect of love causes us all to do some strange and irrational things, but I am still hopeful there are more reputable sites that I can research and use this New Year.
In summary, I would not recommend Love Me to a friend.
