I have been using RussianCupid since about 2006, when it was known as RussianEuro. Back then, there was a chat room feature available kind of like Yahoo Chat has. I'd say in terms of number of members and people differences, your particular interests are more likely to find you someone that fits you better.

There are certainly a lot of scammers on this site, but there are scammers on every dating site, even American ones. I've run into some Ghana and Nigerian scammers, but usually they try to get on chat and immediately disclose that they are in Ghana/Nigeria now and that their home is back in Russia or Ukraine. You just have to be wise. If someone immediately asks for your email address to "exchange photos", 99% of the time it's a scammer. It's rare nowadays that you'll find someone who asks for money on the actual site. The scammers have gotten "smarter" too, because they get immediately reported. That's another thing - try to keep the site better by reporting abuse on anyone that immediately asks for your email address to "share photos" or someone that says they're in another country now even though their profile says otherwise. RussianCupid always follows up with an email to you saying that they removed the member you reported abuse on, IF you're a paying member.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Russians, Ukrainians, and most former Soviet countries DO NOT NEED a Gold or Platinum membership. If someone from Russia or Ukraine, etc. sends you a message and it seems legitimate, wait about 24-48 hours. If their profile, message, etc. disappears from your user inbox, then someone obviously reported abuse on them.

I met my first serious girlfriend on RussianCupid in the summer of 2012. We communicated online for 5 months before meeting in Saint Petersburg. She flew from her home city and I flew from Chicago and we spent a few weeks together in the city. My second serious relationship just ended and it also was from RussianCupid. I communicated with a Ukrainian girl from near Lugansk who was studying in Greece for 5 months before meeting in Athens and my living there with her and touring the country for 3 months. That relationship did not end well, but the people that say that RC is full of scammers are the ones that usually give in to these drop-dead gorgeous women, thinking that the women really like them. You have to be smarter than that. Be optimistic, but also be very realistic. It's not true that the only women you'll find that will actually meet you or are real are women over 40 and/or with children/divorced, but just remember that it's more common in Russia/Ukraine to get married young. It's like the whole idea of the "old maid" that women are less desirable when they're older, even early 30's and late 20's, if they haven't met someone serious by then. Many of the women value family very strongly. If you're just looking for a bride, you might get lucky. But if you're serious about meeting your second half and falling in love and having them fall in love with you, you're gonna have to spend some time on the site. Don't expect to get a Gold membership and meet someone for you and you for them within a few days to a week. You have to be more patient than that, unless you're just looking for a wife.

All in all, it's a great website. If you're looking for just good communication with people from a different culture, then please put that kind of thing in your profile. Don't check off "Romance/Dating" and "Marriage" if you just want a "Penpal" and "Friendship". It's a no-brainer thing. There are plenty of people on there that just want to have a friend from another country, especially the English-speaking countries, however they are usually younger than 24 and still in school.

Conclusion: keep your head up, be optimistic, but realistic, and have fun!!

In summary, I would recommend Russian Cupid to a friend.
