I first visited Kharkov in late 2009 and met several women there and subsequently in two other cities. The Main Office on Kharkov is run and owned by Olga. She took about 1 minute to speak with me and very condescending manner. Nonetheless, I didn't go to Ukraine to see her. Irina Samokhina was very professional and has visited the US on at least one occasions. Anna (LNU) was just a new translator, but very helpful in orienting me to restaurants. The owners pushed these girls hard and wants them to charge for everything. She truly runs it like a business and could care less about if a woman finds a potential mate. Everything from the apartments to cell phone rental is done in USD or Euros. She then converts the Euros (what the site charges to exchange letters and the men pay for everything, the applicants or woman don't even pay. On two separate occasions while in Ukraine, I called using my cellphone and then I went online to look at two responses I was waiting for to see if I could meet these women. The response was identical and I ended up contacting PayPal and asking them to withhold payment. I've talked to 3 different managers in Donestsk, Odessa and Zapozhye and all told me that they were being pressed by Olga to produce. Although, it's their business, she gets a percentage of every man that shows up in Ukraine using any one of their offices. Now, business aspect aside. Don't spend euro upon euro writing emails. Get online and do face-to-face conversation with the woman you're interested in. Not every office is out to lie and get your money, but since your communicating with women from another culture and country, you need to realize that the ratio of women to men is about 6.89. So there is an abundance of women. Here are some pointers:
1. Ask your potential mate/girl if she speaks any English
2. Ask length of time with Charming Brides.
3. Any marriages or children.
4. Do a face-to-face online as soon as possible, it's better to talk to her online at least once if not more BEFORE you get on the flight.
5. No woman in Ukraine can get a visa and fly to the US, perhaps certain countries in Europe, but they need a K-1 visa to get here and then they have 90 days to marry or return.
6. Once you make you plans to travel, try to find your accommodations and ask your guide if she can help you find decent living quarters. Although the USD can go a long way, this agency is ready to milk you for every dime. Do not use them to process your K-1 visa IF YOU DECIDE to sponsor someone. Remember, all of this costs thousands of dollars, not to mention time and effort.
There are some good and sincere women there, but you need to go through a few to find out. There are some players that want men to wine and dine them. American men can usually get the "bad rap" because Western European men can hop on a flight from most anywhere in Europe and be in Kiev within 2-3 hours. So for them, it's a playground. Talk to several women where this happened.
Good luck and if you can, learn some basic Russian and take a dictionary or electronic translator. The individual post where he went to Ukraine 10 times...whew..that's too damn tiring.
